Description
This project included simultaneous construction of (2) new 125,000 square foot buildings on the Allendale Public School's campus. Solid value engineering efforts throughout the course of the project allowed us to complete this project over $1.5 Million under budget. The (2) buildings are 2-story masonry structures with brick veneer, metal panels and metal roofs, steel joists and deck, and also flat membrane roofs and elevators. Sustainable technologies include: A geo-thermal heat pump mechanical system, daylight harvesting, solar shading, radiant flooring and vegetated storm water infiltration swales integrated into parking areas. A vegetated green roof over the administrative offices reduces solar heat gain while serving as both a learning instrument and a featured design element. Both buildings have building management systems and the campus site lighting is also tied into the management systems. All light fixtures and plumbing fixtures are equipped with motion detectors to conserve energy and water. The project team worked diligently with the State of Michigan DNR to develop bridges, pathways, overlooks and outdoor tunneling stations to help conserve the wetland areas that surround the campus.
