Description

When GRCC purchased the old Davenport College Downtown Campus they discovered an immediate need for renovation work to allow for classroom occupancy. Beckering Construction was hired to perform an intense summer renovation project. Architectural renovations to this building included removal and relocation of several interior walls, complete flooring and ceiling replacements, replacement of doors and frames, building envelope repairs, window replacement and replacement of all fixtures and furnishings. This project included a complete overhaul of all major mechanical and electrical systems. The new mechanical and electrical systems are operated by an energy management system including high efficiency motors, energy recovery units and high efficiency light fixtures. The mechanical equipment schedule was a key to the timely completion of this project and Beckering Construction worked closely with Trane Corporation to expedite delivery.

Three weeks before the scheduled project completion date the Grand Rapids Building Inspector demanded that we install $100,000 of additional fireproofing work above finished ceilings at the tops of the walls. The Beckering Team responded with large crews working double shifts to meet the college’s scheduled deadline and finished another successful project.
